Herbs and spices

It's like with wine

Herbs and spices are at the heart of what we do. And our heart has been beating since 1924. We know precisely what are doing and no one is going to pull the wool over our eyes. Just as the Austrian food sector and its cooks are amongst the best in the world, only the best tasting herbs and spices in the world are worthy of our attention. And in the same way that you can tell a bottle of red plonk from a good vintage wine, even though they're both pretty much red, we can tell black pepper from black pepper, even if they are both pretty much hot. It's hardly possible to do this in the day-to-day running of a catering business, and it's also not your task, this comparison of raw spices from different countries and regions of origin. For us it's just part of the job. And it really is just like with wine, the differences in colour, aroma and, above all, flavour, are enormous. We source our spices from the best spice growing regions around the world and ensure that only the best herbs with a powerful flavour make it into our products. You can see it, you can taste it and that's the quality that you can expect from us!

Processing methods really make a difference

Cold milled, freeze dried, extracted – depending on application and variety there are a range of possibilities for drying these noble products of nature, giving them a longer shelf life and making them easy to combine. Just as important as the quality of the spices is the gentle way that they are processed, because spices and many herbs are very sensitive to heat, UV radiation or humidity. One thing is essential – the essential oil content and thus the intensity of flavour must be retained as far as possible. This is our profession and you can smell it when you first open our little tins of treasure.
